Rats for adoption at the Toronto Humane Society...

Nov. 14th, 2009 | 09:22 am
posted by: [info]littlehoudini in [info]toronto

Hello Toronto rat lovers...!

Right now the Toronto Humane Society is overloaded with pet rats - there are three litters (about 20-25 rats) at that perfect two month(ish) age ready to go, and a two or three more litters coming. Plus another dozen or so mature rats of various ages in singles and pairs. They're all sweet, friendly, and hand-trained. If you've ever considered adopting a pet rat (or two... or ten) this is the time to do it.

I'm looking for a REALLY GOOD chicken wing special that's on in Toronto on saturday nights. I'll be back in town next weekend and my friends and I want to get wings. That and, my friend's boyfriend can apparently consume wings in huge quantities and I want to see, haha.

So yes, ANY good chicken wing specials on Saturday nights in the city?

Hi folks,

I'm looking for someone reliable to do some postering/flyering in the downtown core. I have 500 flyers that I would like stuck to poles etc...and no time to do it myself. I want to make sure that these don't end up in the garbage or floating down the street...

Any recommendations out there?

Thanks!

renting in TO, help?

Nov. 13th, 2009 | 04:19 pm
posted by: [info]nicosian in [info]toronto

How does one rent a place in this city without good credit? I have a friend who's moving here from Montreal, has a job lined up, has money for first and last month, isn't a deadbeat, pays rent on time, and every place he's going is telling him NO, because he has less than stellar credit.

Does he need to answer this? what's the criteria? My husband and I just moved here so I'm really not all that familiar with the technicalities of renting, because we didn't have the same issue.

He's looking in Cabbagetown/Church/Wellesley, and coming up with nothing by walking around. If anyone's got some leads, it'd be awesome.

Because as much as we like him, we didn't expect a roomate, and we need to find him his own little place.

Coming from BC and NS as we are, it just seemed to me they ask a heck of a lot of financial info, bank records, credit history, co signers, some of these places. We didn't have half the questions he's been getting. How much financial info are they entitled to?

Glasses Help!

I would like to buy a new pair of glasses. My original pair is perfectly intact, but I would like a spare pair.

I found this one place called Great Glasses. They offer free eye exams and 3 for 1 glasses.

This seems a little too good to be true.

Anyone been to this place and can verify that it's legit?

Also, anyone have any recommendations of places to get your eyes tested and/or to buy glasses? I am hunting around but am not sure what's good or not. (It's been a while since I bought these glasses.)

TIA

Sorsha

This week I had the delightful opportunity to be a guest lecturer at Raina Telgemeier's 6th grade comics class. It was a wonderful experience, re-connecting with kids that age and seeing their interests and activity levels. It's a good reminder to those who find themselves surrounded by people their own age most of the time: we are a continuum; always growing, always everywhere at once. We spoke about color and its effects on mood, reality, environment, and form. I held a blue flashlight to my arm to show the difference light makes (No flash = pale fleshy arm. Close-up flash = blue arm. Far away flash = magenta arm) and we had a few good 'wow' moments when they saw the changes before their eyes with that; and when I showed them what the colors on the computer looked like without the ink lines.

Raina has been busting out all of her energy with this class. She is a woman of mighty determination.

I found myself channeling my mother, also a teacher. You would have been proud of my eyebrow, mom. It arched far and wide and even got some kids back in line. :)

I'm but the grasshopper. My mother's eyebrow can snap a 14-year-old to attention at 50 feet.

Raina is so good at drawing on the fly. I choke up something awful, but she makes it look like it was on the paper the whole time. :)

Raina in action. Part of the trick for me is to keep walking. If you're a moving target, then it helps keep them on their toes. :)

I saw Dylan Moran do his stand up show What It Is at the Apollo last night. That man is so cynical, and hilarious. Made my week. Today There was whitechapple an actual dr who store and brick lane vintage shopping.

Tomorrow I am solo. And thinking of just hitting the library or a smaller park if it's nice and reading some art books.

I love that all the museums in London are free.

Korean summer classes

Hello Toronto! I've got a question for you!
Does anyone know of any Korean language classes in the city, specially in the summer? I've searched google and haven't come up with anything. I'm not looking to take anything from a college/university just something I can take outside of my regular classes. I should mention a class for (young) adults.

Who knew it would be so difficult to find Korean classes, I took Japanese classes a little while ago and it seems like we're over flowing with places to learn that (BTW I reccommend TJLS if you're interested).

Thank you and Happy Friday!

WTF: Fiber Optic Lamp

Hey kids-

I was hoping you could REALLY help a gal out. I am trying to find a fiber optic lamp which displays multiple colors (not just one color). I used to have a spaceship style lamp (which kicked major ass) and would love to have one to spice up my room.

While I'm at it, where can I buy a wooden box of assorted tea bags? I want to ask my boyfriend for one for Christmas, but he has no clue where to start looking (and Teaopia and Starbucks do not carry any from my limited research).

TIA!

Edited for nonsensical use of international grammar structures.

If anyone wants a winter jacket that looks like this:

GAP is having a sale on jackets like that one. In purple, dark blue, black and brown. With taxes it came to less than $100.

The sale runs only until Sunday, and you would need one of those printable coupons that they e-mail. I have one so if you want one, I can e-mail it to you.
